4 Ways to Reduce Lung Cancer Risk

Lifestyle has been linked to at least one third of all adult cancers. Fortunately, living a healthy lifestyle is something well within a person’s control. Making healthy choices and dropping unhealthy habits reduces the risk of getting cancer. Your compounding pharmacy in Los Angeles  declares four healthy habits you can develop to help prevent lung cancer.

Be Smoke Free

Lung cancer is the leading killer of men and women in the U.S. causing 28% of all cancer deaths, which is about 160,000 people every year. The vast majority of lung cancer deaths are due to smoking. Thus, the best way to prevent lung cancer is to stop smoking or to never stop smoking in the first place. But even if you’re having trouble quitting entirely, cutting back on smoking can reduce your risk of getting cancer immensely.

Dropping Weight

Carrying too much weight around is bad for your heart, but beyond that, it’s a major leading contributor to cancer as well.  Obesity has been linked to some 14% of cancer deaths. So, one of the best ways to reduce the risk of cancer is to stay as lean as possible, within a healthy range. This may be one of the most important ways to prevent cancer.

Staying Active

According to the AICR Expert Report, all forms of physical activity help to prevent cancer.  You may not become Mister Olympia with 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day, but evidence shows that this amount of moderate physical activity can reduce your risk of common cancers by 30% to 50%.

Eating Healthy

There are a variety of different foods that may help to prevent cancer. For example, there is evidence showing that carrots, mangos and other foods containing lycopene reduce the risk of prostate cancer. If you’re aiming to reduce your risk of cancer, try and eat non-starchy vegetables and fruits. AICR report’s No. 4 recommendation is to eat mostly foods that come from plants.
