9 Natural Veterinary Medicines You Probably Didn’t Know Vets Use on Pets

Did you know that many professional veterinarians actually have an entire list of home remedies, of veterinary medicines, that they use on a regular basis when their pets are feeling under the weather? Rather than heading to your favorite Van Nuys Pharmacy for some type of prescription medication, many pet-lovers can take advantage of these same holistic cures, much like we humans drink chamomile tea for settling our rattled nerves.

1. Elk Velvet Antler:  This may sound like a strange sounding supplement, but this is actually an ancient Chinese medicine that has been used for centuries to help with achy joints in both humans and pets.  Today, it is made from the antlers of farm-raised elk and can be used to reduce the symptoms of arthritis in our aging pets in as little as 20-30 minutes.

2. Traumeel for pets:  This supplement comes in many forms, including pills, tablets, or liquid drops.  It is a combination of natural ingredients, one of which is the miracle aid “arnica” which has been used for centuries to rid the body of pain, inflammation, and even headaches in both pets and their masters.

3. Omega-3 Tablets:  These over-the-counter supplements can be used to ease the pain and discomfort associated with numerous types of inflammatory conditions in our pets.  Simply mix a bit in with their food in the morning and begin to see instant relief.

4. Glucosamine & Chondroitin:  This combination of supplements acts as an anti-inflammatory, helping to repair the cartilage around joints.  It is also useful for reducing the discomfort of arthritis.  But this home remedy takes a bit of time before it begins to work.  Expect your pet to begin feeling better in approximately 30-days.

5. Pheromones:  Both humans and pets fall victim to the scent of certain pheromones, an essential ingredient involved in producing that “animal attraction” to our potential love match.   But pheromones can also help reduce stress levels as well, helping our cherished pets to relax and become less easily agitated.

6. Lavender Oil:  This is another wonderful scent that soothes the savage beast.  By simply purchasing a wall plugin filled with the aroma of lavender from your local Van Nuys Pharmacy, our family pets become more docile and calm.

7. Shen calmer:  According to the ancient Chinese holistic healers, both man and beast become overly anxious due to a spiritual disorder.  The term “shen” means spirit, and “shen calmer” is simply a combination of approximately 16 natural herbs that is known to re-balance the spirit and improve the feelings of anxiousness and restlessness.

8. Milk Thistle:  This is a wonderful home remedy for detoxing our pets.  Milk thistle comes in handy for pets who have recently undergone treatment for heartworm, helping to remove the remaining toxins in the body and boost the immunity system.

9. Cuddling and Affection:  A little “tender loving care” is perhaps the best home remedy of all, regardless of the physical discomfort or emotional symptoms that our pets might be experiencing.  Especially in older animals whose eyesight might be slowing fading, the power of touch can be the most effective cure of all.
