Foods to Avoid in your Thanksgiving Meal

At our trusted Encino Pharmacy, we understand the complexities of trying to enjoy your Thanksgiving meal while simultaneously trying to stay healthy.  There is an assortment of high calorie and high-fat foods that can wreak havoc on your body. However, this does not mean you have to miss out on bonding over Thanksgiving dinner with your loved ones altogether.

Our Encino Pharmacy put together a list of what foods should be avoided in every part of your meal on Thanksgiving in order to stay on track with your healthy lifestyle.

  1.  Main Course
As many may know, deep-fried food means trouble for your diet. As of late, a deep-fried turkey fad has caught on with many Thanksgiving Day hosts. Opposed to the traditional roasted turkey, deep-fried turkey absorbs more fat during the cooking process. If the food is in the fryer for a long amount of time or if there is too much food in the fryer, more fat is absorbed. Putting a 10-pound turkey inside of a fryer will take up a lot of space and take even more time to cook, thus increasing the fat absorbed.
  1. Sidesencino pharmacy
Stuffing and green bean casserole are two sides that almost everyone will see at the Thanksgiving Day dinner table. Stuffing mainly consists of bread, butter, and sometimes sausage, which are very high in carbs. Just one cup of stuffing with sausage could set you back 400 calories. A smart alternative is wheat bread instead of white, and cranberries or apples instead of sausage.  Green bean casserole may sound relatively healthy; however, the butter, cream of mushroom soup, and French-fried onions equal a side that is high in calories, sodium, and saturated fat. A healthy alteration to this highly caloric dish is steamed green beans opposed to fried.
  1. Dessert
Pecan pie may sound like a healthier dessert due to pecans being a healthier nut; however, when they are mixed with butter and sugar, the calories override the healthy fat and fiber in the nut. To avoid the traditional sugary dessert, consider low-fat butter or egg whites when making this pie.

Our top-quality Encino Pharmacy wants you to have the proper resources to enjoy a happy and healthy Thanksgiving dinner.
