Things You Didn’t Know About Aromatherapy

The truly authentic aromatherapy therapy products are much more than just sweet-smelling candles, massage oils, and bath beads. Rather than using synthetic fragrances to entice our sense of smell, the more reputable products are actually infused with real healing oils and plant extracts that provide some rather remarkable health benefits while also supporting the re-balancing of body, mind, and spirit. At ABC Compounding Pharmacy, located in Los Angeles, we believe that a healthy life is one that not only includes great physical health, but mental health as well.

How Aromatherapy works

It is not uncommon for a combination of natural oils and plant extracts to be used at the same time, each with their own unique healing properties. Concentrates are developed from plant blossoms, roots, leaves, and seeds that each possess their own variety of unique health benefits. Some scents aid in the healing of rashes and fungal infections. Others can be used to reduce body aches, pain, and inflation. And still others have proven to be highly effective as mood enhancers or stress relievers. While the scientific and medical communities are still unclear as to just how aromatherapy works, most believe that the sense of smell plays an important role in overcoming some of our physical, mental, and emotional disorders because of its direct connection to the brain. After all, the brain is where all of our thoughts, emotions, and memories are stored which have a significant influence over nearly every aspect of our well-being. Others believe that these fragrances interact with our blood, hormones, and enzymes on some level and eventually results in these positive transformations.

Different scents for different purposes

In general, most aromatherapy products are used to promote stress relief, enhance mood, and improve relaxation. Softer scents like lavender, vanilla, and chamomile seem to be connected with relaxation while more vibrant fragrances like lime, lemon, and orange tend to uplift our moods. Ginger, eucalyptus, and lemon grass are connected with reducing body aches and pains while also reducing the occurrence of headaches and migraines.
There are also several different ways to ingest these life-changing fragrances, too. Some prefer to burn the essential oils while others use diffusers. Nebulizers can turn the oils into an almost gaseous state that is considered easier for the body to absorb. Some aromatherapy enthusiasts simply place a bit of plant extract or healing oil into a small pendant that is worn around the neck. Then of course, there are those who simply prefer to sprinkle a few droplets into their bath water for an almost instantaneous stress reduction after a long day’s work.
